The Mexican Food Tour & Breakfast starts at 8:00 am sharp in the Mercado Benito Juárez. 

The Mexykan Food Tour & Breakfast are about 3 – 3.5 hours, 8 am – 11 am.

After everyone arrives for the food tour. We visit a comedor/diner near the market to enjoy breakfast with traditional Mexican foods and fresh fruit juices.

For example choose from: chilaquiles, queso al comal, quesadillas, tlayudas, salsa de huevos, salsa de queso, enchiladas verdes con pollo, sopes, huaraches, fresh made corn tortillas, embarradas, enfrijoladas, entomatadas, enmoladas, fresh squeezed juice, café de la olla, agua frescas, or hot chocolate. During breakfast we discuss the culinary history of Mexico. Learn what products are native to the Americas and Mexico. Discover the foods that immigrants have brought to Mexico forever changing the culinary traditions.

The next stop on the Mexican Food Tour is a dried goods and chile shop across from the market.

Check out some of the most rare chiles in the world, unique to Oaxaca. Learn the secrets of purchasing dried chiles. Discover the spices and herbs used in Oaxaca cooking. The chocolate shop is our next stop on the Mexican Food Tour. You’ll love the chocolate shop where cacao beans are ground into fresh chocolate. The aroma and taste of fresh ground chocolate are unmistakable and delicious.

Continuing the food tour we return to the Mercado Benito Juárez.

Inside the market we visit and meet local vendors with whom I’ve nurtured relationships for nearly 20 years. Discover more dried chiles, more chocolate, exotic produce, candies, handmade tostadas, grasshoppers, fresh cheeses, fresh poultry, meat and seafood. Plus handmade pottery, molcajetes, and tortilla presses. Learn the history of the products and their origins. Watch the nixtamal corn being ground: the result is corn masa that’s used to make tortillas, antojitos and tamales.
